Why we do not start at dawn in Cusco
The day-trip crush leaves Cusco before light, spends the thin air in a queue, and is back in the city after dark. The ridge is worth the walk. It is not worth that day.
We publish two days and one night, April to October. The map runs Pitumarca, Valle Rojo, Vinicunca. We will not invent a kilometre count we do not run as a fixed script. The desk writes the hours with you.
The months that hold
April to October is the window we publish. The wetter months turn the high path to mud and close the view. If your dates fall outside that window, we say so.
The hard air is on the ridge, not in Cusco. That is why the night sits near the trail, and why we will not put you on Vinicunca the morning after an international flight.
How the walk sits with the others
This day can sit beside a Salkantay week, a night at Humantay, or the Ausangate circuit. Colca is the southern walk, from Arequipa, when the journey has room for it.
-
The night near the trail
Cusco first, long enough for the air. Then Pitumarca. We do not walk the ridge on the day you land.
-
The ridge
Valle Rojo, then Vinicunca. Color, thin air, and a trail that earns the view. We stop when the ground says so.
-
Back
The same country down, then Cusco. We will not rush the road home into a second high day.
What to bring, and what to ask
Broken-in walking shoes, layers for a cold ridge, rain protection, sunblock, and a day pack. Personal insurance is yours. Entrance, transport, and the shape of the day are held by the desk once we confirm — nothing is charged before that.
