Refugio Amazonas: Family Expedition to the Peruvian Amazon Tours

A four-day family expedition into the southern Amazon of Madre de Dios — wildlife on the river and at the oxbow, and time with the people who know this forest. The lodge sits back from the crowd. The days are composed for children and adults together, not a backpacker circuit.

Shared plan

Shared plan: You will travel with other adventurers heading to the same destination.

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Refugio Amazonas – Orientation

Land in Puerto Maldonado. The river takes you to Refugio Amazonas. Orientation at the lodge: how the forest is walked, what the night holds, and a first evening that lets the altitude of the Andes fall away.

Day 2: Discover the oxbow lake

A still lake day — canoe, birds, and whatever the water offers. Families move at a watching pace. The forest is the work; we do not rush it.

Day 3: Join a party full of colors and sounds

Macaws, canopy, and the noise the forest makes when it is left alone. Clay licks if the day is right. A party of colour and sound — not staged, not a zoo.

Day 4: Refugio Amazonas – Puerto Maldonado

A last morning on the river, then back to Puerto Maldonado and the flight out. We will not rush the goodbye.
