Explore the routeEnjoy the marvels of the Colca Canyon, the second deepest canyon on Earth, with its sweeping vistas surrounded by volcanic peaks. Gaze upon pre-Inca terracing, feats of agricultural engineering that were created centuries ago and are still in use today. Enjoy a relaxing float in warm springs and hot springs at Sangalle and La Calera. Shared plan: You will travel with other adventurers heading to the same destination.
Leave Arequipa for the canyon rim at Pampa San Miguel — condors if the air is with us, vicuñas on the grass. Then the descent to San Juan de Chuccho and a night with a family, not a lodge circuit.
Down-canyon to Sangalle, the oasis at the floor. Warm water, shade, and a slower afternoon after the walk. The springs here are for the body after the stone.
The climb out to Cabanaconde, then Chivay and La Calera’s hot springs before the road home to Arequipa. Terraces still in work, grain fields, and a last look at the volcanoes.
